"Can you draw well? Remember this all important fact – The drawing is the basis, the groundwork, from which your painting is created. If there are weaknesses in your drawing, everything else will be flawed from the onset. Now I know that we can always use more work on our hand skills. There’s no such thing as a perfect drawing – we aren’t looking for perfection, but we are looking for skilled. If you struggle with anatomy, perspective, and/or composition – then those issues have to be addressed before you start worrying about portfolio pieces."
