520: About Tao and God

"The Tao is Nameless. Nothing can be said about it that does not detract from its fullness. To say that it exists is to exclude what does not exist, although void is the very nature of the Tao. To say that it does not exist is to exclude the Tao-permeated plenum. Words limit, but the Tao is limitless.

This conception of the Tao makes it much greater than God, since theists hold that God and the creatures of his creation are forever separate. The Christian aspires to live in God’s presence, but does not dream that creatures can be one with God! Therefore God is less than infinite, excluding what is not God. To a Taoist, nothing is separate from the Tao."
